Lay Health Check Trainers

TVCS has a contract to deliver NHS Health Check training across Hampshire to those professionals who provide people over 45 with Health Checks in local health care settings. 80 courses will be delivered, mainly in GP surgeries, between April 2017 and March 2019

We are seeking 8 – 10 people across Hampshire who have had an NHS Health Check, and bring personal experience and who can support the principal trainer. It is personal experience that we want above all, but we also need people who can:

  • communicate well
  • feel confident enough to take part in discussions with health professionals, although they don’t need to have any particular medical knowledge
  • be positive about the potential benefits of NHS Health Checks
  • commit reliably to the time required, both to prepare and take part in the training
  • see beyond their own personal experience and present a wider public/patient perspective on NHS Health Checks

Training delivered will be either half day or whole days, depending on the needs of each surgery.

For those interested in applying, preparation will need at least one face to face meeting with the principal trainer and subsequent meetings could be by telephone.

We are seeking a commitment of between 5 – 10 courses over two years and a fee of £150 per full day will be paid as a one off. There will not be any further payments made for preparation time; however we will pay travel expenses.
