Volunteers Galore at the Job Fair

The Unity Volunteer Centre participated in a vibrant Job Fair hosted at the Job Centre, Andover this week where a myriad of organisations and agencies could be seen promoting there opportunities and services.

Christianne Ireland, Volunteer Coordinator, along with two Volunteers, Karen Platt and Sam Wass, spent a full day engaging with the 304 people who attended, about the benefits of volunteering and the positive impact this could have not only on there C.V. as a stepping stone into employment, but also for the charities and groups who rely so heavily on volunteers.

An upbeat and positive day resulted in over 20 people arranging discussions with the team to identify suitable volunteer placements with particular interest being shown in administration, gardening, care work and I.T. with 60 people requesting further information.  Christianne said "Thanks must go to our Unity volunteers who were extremely proactive in capturing people and engaging them in conversation, making sure they had the relevant information.  most of the people we spoke to did know that volunteering was a way back into employment and a number had already volunteered before but interest was extremely high and we were busy all day long. Having my volunteers was vital as they are the best promotion we have for why volunteering works!"
