News and Events News & Updates I Can Move More and Feel Better ‘I Can Move More and Feel Better’ The I Can Therapy Centre is an innovative, new facility in Andover providing a unique movement and exercise experience designed to enable users to move more and feel better. The Centre boasts a circuit of ten specially adapted power assisted exercise equipment machines; ideal for people of all ages who may be inactive and deconditioned, living with limited mobility, pre or post-surgery, older adults and for those managing long-term conditions including Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, stroke, fibromyalgia, diabetes and arthritis to name but a few; to embark on their journey to improved health and wellbeing. The range of specialist equipment at the I Can Therapy Centre enables all users to exercise either passively or actively, depending on their abilities and how they feel each and every time they attend. Liz Murray, Community Health Development Manager for independent local charity, Valley Leisure Ltd who operates the I Can Therapy Centre, said “We are extremely excited to be at the forefront of providing a locally available, accessible and inclusive exercise experience for users of all ages and abilities. Power assisted exercise is a truly unique experience and is enabling people to mobilise their joints, strengthen their muscles and increase their range of movement. We are absolutely delighted that users are gaining confidence and independence in their everyday lives by using our Centre.” Customer feedback has so far highlighted that “I can now stretch my arm and the range of movement is so much better” “My I Can exercise programme is helping to keep my muscles moving and stop them wasting away.” “My joints are working better and I can get in and out of my car more easily and get my feet into a better position on the peddles.” "Climbing the stairs is becoming much easier. In addition to a bespoke facility, a unique support system is in place at ‘I Can’ to support users in gaining the most from their time at the Centre. Ann Jones; Centre Coordinator provides a warm welcome to all who attend; Jan Howard; Neuro Specialist Physiotherapist ensures that users are thoroughly assessed prior to exercising and a team of volunteer Activity Buddies support both Jan, Ann and all users by meeting and greeting people on arrival, supporting and encouraging users during their move more session at I Can and having an often much needed cuppa and a chat after they have completed their exercise circuit. “There is a great team at ‘I Can’ they’re very friendly, welcoming to all, knowledgeable about the exercise equipment and how it should be used, I look forward to going each time.” Since opening in late 2017 by stroke survivor and child protection campaigner, Dr Sara Payne MBE, the I Can Therapy Centre has welcomed over 120 customers into the facility with the majority of people returning time and again. Sara said “The facilities offered at the I Can Therapy Centre are absolutely superb and the whole ethos of the team is incredibly inspiring. I wish centres like these were available in every town and city across the country, not just for physical rehabilitation which in itself is vitally important, but for the social engagement that Liz and her team are clearly focussed on delivering”. The I Can Therapy Centre is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm and is located within the Salto Centre, Off Charlton Road, Andover, Hants SP10 4AJ. There is ample free parking available on-site.
